ARTY’CLE
LAFAYETTE – ANTICIPATIONS

Paris is full of museum, gallery, or art institute. Exhibitions are changing all the time, such as the scenography but every time in the same place. Want you to be surprise in a new space?

We went to discover a unique place. Nestled in the heart of the Marais district, the new Galeries Lafayette Corporate Foundation: LAFAYETTE – ANTICIPATIONS
LAFAYETTE – ANTICIPATIONS is a building that we don’t see at first sight. But if your curiosity push you to pass the door of what seems to be a long corridor, you will find a beautiful architecture and a contemporary artistic scene’s “laboratory”.
Place of creation, production and exhibitions dedicated to arts, the Foundation has to vocation to support contemporary artist and actuals creations : from plastic arts to fashion, from design to living arts.

Guillaume Houzé (Director of Image and Communication of Galeries Lafayette and BHV Marais) imagined this place with the architect Rem Koolhaas as a hybrid building. Here, it is not the artist who adapts his work to the building but the building that adapts to the artist through a system of sliding floors and walls.

After 3 years of work, the building offers 840m2 of exhibition space, production workshops, a space dedicated to young people, a restaurant and a shop.

LAFAYETTE – ANTICIPATIONS opened on March 10th 2018 in the heart of the Marais (69, rue du plâtre, 75004 Paris) and we were there to admire the first exhibition in France of the American artist Lutz Bacher: “The Silence of the Sea “designed from the vertical lines of the building.

If LAFAYETTE – ANTICIPATIONS has designed a building capable of adapting to artists, CASTELBAJAC Paris has created clothes that adapt to art: dresses paintings or misapropriation. (See Arty’cle Memorabilia – The Misapropriation).
Thus, it is not yet another museum of contemporary art that we discover today, but a new way of understanding art, also by modifying its exhibition platform.
For an exhibition, a performance, or even a coffee, discover this unique place of the contemporary art scene!
